Brooks and Kate Firestone established Firestone Vineyard as Santa Barbara County’s first estate winery in 1972. Of Brooks Firestone, the Los Angeles Times wrote, “He was a pioneer, an inspirer, and expander of possibilities; he took a chance on an untried wine area, then stuck with it and made it pay.” In 1995, the Firestone family took another pioneering step by establishing Curtis Winery as one of California’s first wineries dedicated exclusively to Rhône-style wines. The name Curtis honors the maiden name of Brooks’ mother. Today, Adam and Kate Firestone advance their family’s winemaking heritage as the active owners of Curtis Winery.

Winemaker Chuck Carlson’s winemaking style requires physiological ripeness in the vineyard, followed by minimal processing in the cellar, to ultimately capture the purest qualities of the fruit. “My approach is to work with-not against-what Mother Nature gives us,” Chuck says. “We are blessed to have vineyards that produce incredible fruit, and that’s why I want the inherent flavors to really stand out and define the wine.”

Bill Wathen and Dick Doré, also known as “The Foxen Boys”, have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen Winery at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in northern Santa Barbara County. Since that time, their dedication has remained the same – the creation of very small-production, vineyard-designated wines using a “minimalist” approach to winemaking.

The Foxen Boys’ solar-powered winery and tasting room features their pinots, chardonnays and Rhone-style wines. Their historic tasting shack “foxen 7200” remains open, featuring their Cal-Italian and Bordeaux-style wines.

If you don’t know FOXEN, you don’t know Dick…or Bill.

Proprietor Ken Volk has been making Santa Barbara and Central Coast wines for more than a quarter century. Perhaps best known as the founder of Wild Horse Winery, Ken has earned a reputation for crafting world-class wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Santa Maria Valley. His unparalleled knowledge and skill have garnered him immediate recognition for producing luxury wines of exceptional character with his eponymous brand, Kenneth Volk Vineyards, located in Santa Maria Valley.

In many ways, Ken’s landing in Santa Maria is sort of a full circle journey. He made home wines from the nearby Rancho Sisquoc Vineyard in the 1970’s, and his first professional wine under the Wild Horse label was a 1983 Pinot Noir from the nearby Sierra Madre Vineyard. Rodolfo Callado, of Mesa Vineyard Management, who oversees the management of Kenneth Volk’s small estate vineyard, was Ken’s first employee at Wild Horse.

Riverbench Vineyard was established in 1973, when its first Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes were planted on the property. Since then, some of the most renowned wineries in Santa Barbara County have purchased our fruit for their own wines. Over time Riverbench has become a prominent name for high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Santa Maria Valley.

Riverbench is dedicated to crafting a small portfolio of wines from our remarkable vineyard, where cool ocean breezes nurture the varietals’ luscious tropical fruit flavors. We enhance these natural qualities through fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, resulting in a wine of uncommon character and dimension.

Founded in 2001 by Marvin & Paulette Teixeira with the planting of a small vineyard on their cattle ranch. Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters) was named for their three daughters, Stacey, Tracey & Marcey. Our label is a picture of the barn that exhibits the JT cattle brand, which was Marvin’s fathers brand used to identify cattle today. The barn still exists on the winery property. The ranch is still headquarters for the family cattle operation.

Tres Hermanas with winemaker Luke Lindquist at the helm, is focused on the creation of fine French and Italian style wines using fruit from some of the leading vineyards on the Central Coast as well as from our own estate grown Syrah.
